The Enterprise survey aims to gather primary data on indicators related to private sector competitiveness. Data will be used to better understand the average ability of domestic supply chains to deliver goods and services to international clients.

MKE implemented the following tasks in cooperation/ consultation with the Client:

  • Developed a list of businesses that meets the required criteria such as regions, supply chain, and type of ownership;

  • Screened the list of business based on the set criteria and categorize firms;

  • Prepared for the in-person enumeration, quality control analysis of the collected data, and data delivery, including translation of questionnaire, participating in training of trainers, pilot interviews, CAPI design.

Project Description:

The project is about the management of assessing and ranking scholarship applications for Australia Awards Myanmar. In the project, Mekong Economics will provide logistics support. The In-Country Logistics Support will support the Intake 2020 interview and selection process for Australia Awards Myanmar. Up to 30 days of input will be required from June-September 2019.  This support will be provided in-country (Myanmar) and will be responsible for liaising with Scope Global remotely to deliver the following services:

  • Arrange and schedule interviews (in Yangon, NPT and other locations),

  • Liaise with the English language testing provider to arrange testing prior to interview, and

SMEC - National Consultancy for Vinfast Project - 2019

Project Description:

SMEC International Pty Ltd (SMEC) has been contracted to provide consultancy services for the Implementation of Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) for the supplies, installations and commissioning of machinery and equipment for the construction of a new automotive manufacturing plant to be operated by Vinfast in Hai Phong, Vietnam (the Project).

MKE is required to provide assistance to the SMEC Team to deliver the required services, in accordance with applicable international and national guidelines including the Equator Principles, the IFC Performance Standards, the EHS Guidelines, and the Vietnamese environmental and social laws and regulations.

The Social Safeguards Specialist will report to the International Social Specialist and the Project Manager and undertake the following tasks:

  • Develop a Stakeholder Engagement Plan that identifies and maps the relevant stakeholders, sets out engagement approaches or methods and actions for each stakeholder or stakeholder group, confirms timing for implementation, and includes monitoring requirements;

  • Undertake a comprehensive socio-economic survey to clarify the current status of living conditions and livelihoods of displaced peoples before/ after being displaced and vulnerability of displaced people;

  • Update and develop resettlement/ livelihood restoration strategies and contribute to the development of a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) including Livelihood Restoration Plan;

  • Contribute to the preparation of a Cultural Heritage Baseline Report;

  • Contribute to the preparation of a Social Baseline Report;

  • Contribute to the preparation of a Community Health Development Plan;

  • Conduct an analysis of the Project construction labor force to identify viable alternatives for those workers subject to retrenchment;

  • Develop and implement a retrenchment plan to reduce the adverse impacts of retrenchment on workers, in line with this IFC PS requirement;

  • Undertake land acquisition audit;

  • Conduct consultation and information disclosure on the CDP with relevant stakeholders (i.e. authorities, affected communities);

  • Conduct a baseline cultural heritage study and impacts on cultural heritages from the Project development and contribute to the development of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan including a Chance Finds Procedure;

Project Description:

MKE has engaged in a large-scale manufacturing project “’the project” in Papua New Guinea. The project itself will need a large supply chain network of enterprises in PNG to support its activities and provide services. In collaboration with our project partner, an international consulting firm, MKE conducted a survey of 250 companies in PNG to identify enterprises which could potentially be included in the supply chain for the project. The purpose of the enterprise survey was to gather data on local firms in Papua New Guinea and data was used to better understand the average ability of domestic supply chains to deliver goods and services to international clients. The survey project supported the local economy by identifying which enterprises could conduct operations in the supply chain of the project through the provision of supplies and services.

The purpose of the assignment was to document and analyse how gender equity could be supported in supplier factory settings, with special attention to policies and practices sexual harassment.
