Project Description:

The objectives of this assignment were to conduct a Vulnerability Assessment (VA) that would inform the planning and implementation for the CCA, to build capacity at FD, ECD and FRI in the design and implementation of VA, including capacities in community consultation and facilitation processes that would be important skill for effective community engagement and institution building for co-management related to sustainable mangrove management.

MKE collected data and information from multiple sources, including existing research, studies and databases, expert consultations, community consultations, transect walks, community mapping, risk ranking, and focus-group discussions (including vulnerable groups such as women, poor, and different ethnic groups and religions).

The VA included community consultations as a key methodological approach. Since community consultations were also important elements of subsequent co-management and resilience-building work related to Engagement Outputs 2, 3 and 4, the VA would support capacity building on community consultation and facilitation as an integrated part of the VA

MKE was commissioned to collect baseline information and establish benchmarks for the proposed outcomes in the Country Plan of DCA for Myanmar. IFC - Market research on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam with a specific focus on those owned by women (WSMEs) - 2017

Project Description:

MKE assisted the lead firm, providing input for desk research including the facilitation of explorative interviews, conducting 300 WSMEs (SMEs owned by women) surveys and 200 male-owned SMEs. MKE delivered the raw data, translated the answers to open questions into English, and facilitated 9 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and wrote a brief report describing the main findings for each FDG. MKE also wrote selected sections in the Inception Report and Final Report, and participated in the meetings with key informants and IFC.

Project Description:

This baseline study was part of UNFPA commitment to support the Government of Vietnam (GoV) in addressing the problem of imbalanced sex ratio at birth (SRB). UNFPA is forming an intervention model to be piloted in Hai Duong province with an aim to provide adequate and well directed support for the GoV in combating rising SRB imbalance.

This baseline study was designed and conducted in Hai Duong province to measure the actual situation of sex ratio at birth in the province, identify gender roles and cultural perceptions of gender that drive SRB imbalance in Vietnam, review the awareness to SRB imbalance as well as the effectiveness of past/current interventions, and recommend detailed interventions as well as set up baseline data for measuring the project effectiveness and cost effectiveness analysis of the intervention model on SRB by the end of 2015 and 2016.
