Project Description:

UN supported the Government of Myanmar (GoM) in its effort to conduct an assessment of households’ basic needs in the Rakhine state, as part of the efforts to assist the GoM to achieve socio-economic development of the State. It was envisaged that the assessment initially would be piloted in certain areas of Rakhine with the possibility of expanding it to cover the entire state later on.

MKE provided an international Survey Expert to lead on the design and implementation of the surveys that will be conducted for the assessment (both qualitative and quantitative).

UNDP - Assessment, Identification and Monitoring of Small-scale Water Infrastructure Needs for Drinking & Irrigation Water in the DryZone of Myanmar - 2016

Project Description:

The project aimed to reduce the increasing impacts of climate change on agricultural and livestock production cycles in the dry zone of Myanmar, particularly the impacts of increasing temperature and evaporation, declining water availability, and intensifying weather events especially flash floods and cyclones.

MKE took responsibility for writing the work plan, organizing township level coordination meetings, including preparing all necessary invitations, administration, logistics, and setting the agenda. MKE also managed and led the coordination meetings to varying degrees, based on results of Township level coordination meetings, realized field verification and consultation with the communities by village meetings and a rapid need assessment (RNA).

Further, MKE assisted in the preparation, translation and capitalization of the results to inform the choice of target villages, organized village level consultation meetings, and Water User Groups (WUG).

Project Description:

For UNDP development interventions in Myanmar the principal instruments for community engagement and for improving livelihoods are the Self Reliance Groups (SRGs) and Community based organizations (CBOs).

The Internal Assessment Mission (IAM) 2012 recommended a review of the repayment rate by a qualified expert in microfinance so as not to cast doubt on the reported results, but to ensure that the formula is robust and correctly capturing the full performance of the revolving funds. It was in this regard the UNDP through ICDP and CDRT required solid, quantifiable evidence as to the performance of the SRG and CBO common fund over time, including a review of the calculation of the repayment rate and tracking method.

UNDP Myanmar - Study of Development Intervention Approaches - 2012

Project Description:

UNDP Myanmar began formulating a new, post-2012 HDI programme. This consultancy served to inform the post-2012 HDI progamme design. It consisted of a study of development intervention approaches and related business models, (e.g. farmer field school, private sector – development agency partnership production of appropriate technology based agricultural tools/equipment, etc.) for adaptation, where feasible, into the new UNDP programme.

The objective was to provide comprehensive knowledge of successful development interventions including related business models demonstrated by development agencies working on the grassroots level in rural Myanmar as well as bring in models of best practices from other countries.

Project Description:

UNDP had implemented three phases of the Human Development Initiative (HDI) programme, with its fourth phase ending in December 2012. In the spring of 2012 UNDP Myanmar began formulating a new, post-2012 HDI programme. This consultancy was one of those to be fielded by the country office to explore targeting methodology options for household/ beneficiary selection in the new programme. As such, the UNDP Myanmar required an assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of the current HDI beneficiary targeting procedures for household and village as well as an analysis of different targeting practices in Myanmar and international best practices.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) - Short – Term Consultant for The Round Table Process (RTP) - 2011

Project Description:

The Round Table Process (RTP) was the national mechanism to promote constructive dialogue and cooperation between the Government and development partners for the achievement of national development goals including the MDGs and LDC graduation. To assist donors and Lao Government for the Annual Round Table Implementation Meeting in November 2011, MKE had:

  • Provided an update and overview of Lao PDR’s key macro-economic and social development indicators, as well as challenges and outlook.

  • Provided a brief overview and description of the 7th NSEDP 2011-215 recently formulated under the leadership of MPI, as well as examined updates in the development of social development factors in the context of the MDGs and progress towards targets set for 2015

  • Took a look at the financing side for achieving the MDGs

  • Provided an analysis of the enabling environment, including an update on the business environment, and a review and analysis of the target of LDC graduation for Lao PDR by 2020.
